What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a scheme developed to provide support for people with a disability, their families and carers. Eligible participants receive a plan catered to their individual needs. This plan provides the participant with funding to access supports from registered NDIS providers that helps them achieve their goals.

Home Modifications may have been identified as a service which will help you achieve your goals. This may be the case if:

  • Due to the impact of your disability, either you or your carer cannot access a room you normally would have access to, or

  • Your primary and current residence is in a state that is unable to support living and care arrangements

Am I eligible for the NDIS?

Eligibility to receive a plan under the NDIS is subject to the individual meeting a number of criteria. These criteria include age and residence requirements, as well as disability or early intervention requirements.

To find out if you or someone you advocate for are eligible for the NDIS, visit the NDIS website.

What is a Home Care Package?

Home Care Packages are government-subsidized programs designed to help older Australians live independently in their homes for as long as possible. Through these packages, you can access a range of services, including essential home modifications to make your living environment safer and more accessible.

Home modifications funded through Home Care Packages may include:

  • Installing Ramps and Rails: Enhancing mobility within your home.

  • Bathroom Modifications: Adapting your bathroom to improve safety and accessibility, such as installing walk-in showers or grab bars.

  • Widening Doorways: Facilitating the use of mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs.

The level of funding you receive is based on your assessed care needs, ranging from basic support to high-level care. The process starts with an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), who will help determine the appropriate package level and services, including any necessary home modifications.

These modifications are managed by approved providers, ensuring that all work meets the necessary standards and regulations to keep your home safe and accessible.
